Kentucky

In September Hazel, Amy and Kyle took a trip to Kentucky to visit Hazel's grandparents and meet some more of her family. This was a big trip of firsts for Hazel, including her first airplane ride all the way for San Francisco to Cincinnati. She also got to meet her great grandma Liebermann for the very first time. While we were visiting we went to Lexington to see Kyle's alma mater Transylvania University and to visit his uncle and aunt, Steve and Sandy Monhollen. Grandma and grandpa Monhollen took Hazel (and mom and dad) to the Cincinnati Museum Center which used to be a train station. We explored the Natural History Museum and learned all about the glacial origins of the Ohio valley region and the animals that used to live there. We also explored the ice cream parlour in the museum center's lobby which was completely decorated in historic local Rookwood Pottery tiles, hand formed and glazed. Hazel perked up for dessert, though she managed to sleep through most of the ice age, allowing mom and dad to tour a replica of a limestone cave, the same one Kyle used to enjoy as a kid on school field trips, fun! After the trip to the museum we all went to Newport, KY for a special birthday dinner for Amy, and a nice view of the Ohio River and Cincinnati. Of course no trip to Kentucky is complete without a walk in the woods to see papaw's pond and all the trees and bugs. We saw lots of spiders, so we turned around and went back to the house. It was a great trip, and we can't wait to come back to see everyone again soon!

Dear Hazel,
We love your web site. You look great in your Halloween costume. It was fun to see your baby friends at the party. Give our hugs to your mom and dad.
Love,
Aunt Sandy and Uncle Steve
